From 31 August 2026, official Thai missions published two material changes to DTV supporting documents: proof of permanent residence replaces simple evidence of current location, and criminal record clearance becomes an additional requirement.
Mission requirements can change. Confirm the responsible mission and live official guidance immediately before submission and payment.
What the official notices say
The notices published by Thai missions describe proof of permanent residence in the country where the application is submitted. They also require a criminal record clearance issued by the authorities of the applicant’s nationality or permanent-residence country. Applications submitted before the effective date may be handled under the earlier document rules.
Why this changes mission routing
Being physically present in a country is no longer the same as being eligible to file a DTV there. A tourist stamp, short stay or hotel booking should not be treated as proof of permanent residence. Applicants should identify the mission serving their nationality or permanent residence and confirm what that mission accepts as evidence.
Criminal record details can differ
Validity periods, issuing authorities, translations, legalisation and whether electronic certificates are accepted can be mission-specific. For example, the London embassy’s general information says its DTV police-clearance certificate must be issued within six months. Do not apply that six-month detail to every mission without checking.
Immediate action list
Confirm your mission, order the correct criminal record document early, check whether translation or legalisation is required, and retain evidence that demonstrates permanent rather than temporary residence. Reverify the source shortly before submission because implementation guidance can change.
